Our commitment
Realproz is committed to the letter and the spirit of United States policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, national origin, or any other class protected under the Illinois Human Rights Act or the Chicago Fair Housing Ordinance.
The federal Fair Housing Act makes it unlawful to discriminate in the sale, rental, financing or advertising of housing on those bases. The Illinois Human Rights Act goes further and additionally prohibits discrimination on the basis of ancestry, age, marital status, military status, unfavorable discharge from military service, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, order of protection status, arrest record, citizenship status, and source of income. Local ordinances, including the Chicago Fair Housing Ordinance and those in Cook County, may add further protected categories.
We follow all of them, and we expect the same of anyone we work alongside on a transaction.
What that means in practice
We will not steer you toward or away from a neighborhood based on any protected characteristic — yours or anyone else's. If you ask for an opinion on the demographic makeup of an area, we will decline to give one, and point you to objective public data instead. That is not evasiveness; providing that kind of guidance is unlawful and it harms the people who live there.
We market every property to the widest possible audience, in English and in Spanish, and we do not accept instructions from a seller to limit who may view or buy a property on a protected basis.
Language assistance is offered as a service, never as a basis for treating anyone differently.
If you believe you have been discriminated against
You can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or with the Illinois Department of Human Rights. Both accept complaints directly from the public, and neither requires you to have an attorney.
If it concerns something that happened in a transaction involving Realproz, please also tell us directly — (773) 592-6925 or dmendez@realproz.us. We would rather hear it from you first.
